At the Nomad Electric Services Monitoring Centre in Łódź, our team keeps around-the-clock operational watch over 2,5 GW of capacity from solar farms, wind farms and energy storage systems located across Europe. In the Łódzkie region itself, the company also manages solar power plants, serviced by engineers who live locally. Nomad Electric Services is also one of the partners of the “Młodzi w Łodzi” (Young in Łódź) programme. That’s why TV and press visited our Monitoring Centre.
Nomad Electric Services specialises in managing and servicing renewable energy plants. The Monitoring Centre in Łódź works as an operational control tower, from which operators track and control more than a thousand solar plants and storage systems across Europe in real time. Within the Łódzkie region specifically, the company manages PV farms with a combined capacity of over 55 MW, generating roughly 55 GWh a year – comparable to the annual electricity use of an entire town such as Skierniewice, Radomsko, Kutno or Sieradz. The region’s PV farms are physically maintained by company engineers based throughout the province. In solar power, every hour of downtime means lost production, which is why our team is on the ground, shortening response times, speeding up diagnostics and reducing lost kilowatt-hours.
The growth of renewables guarantees stable jobs, and students and engineers who want to work with the latest renewable technologies no longer need to move abroad, since these projects are now delivered right here in the region. “From Łódź, we manage power plants that will generate energy across Europe for decades to come – the sector keeps changing, and the most interesting developments are still ahead of us. Every new PV farm or storage system needs a team to keep it running for the next 20 to 30 years, so working with us is a long-term career, not a seasonal job. That’s exactly why we’re a partner of ‘Młodzi w Łodzi’ – we want competence to grow locally,” says Michał Niewadzisz, Director of the Monitoring Centre in Łódź, Nomad Electric Services.
How field engineers work with the Monitoring Centre
A dispatcher at the Łódź Monitoring Centre sees, in real time through our own Nomad NX SCADA system, what is happening at every plant, responds to deviations from operating parameters, and assigns field engineers specific tasks on site. Every day looks a little different, checking a transformer station, running thermal imaging to find hot spots, measuring insulation resistance or servicing an inverter. What stays constant is top-class measuring equipment and strict adherence to health and safety procedures. Servicing utility-scale renewable plants has become far more professionalised in recent years, now sitting squarely within the world of professional power engineering. Over the course of a year, our field teams carry out substantial maintenance work on medium- and high-voltage equipment, coordinated with the relevant distribution system operator.
Nomad Electric Group is one of the partners of the “Młodzi w Łodzi” programme, an initiative of the City of Łódź’s Office for Economic Development and International Cooperation, bringing together companies and the city’s largest universities. Polish expertise, global standards
Poland’s renewable energy market will need many more service engineers, SCADA and EMS automation specialists, and storage experts in the decades ahead, and Nomad Electric Services is building that expertise at home. Our work follows the quality and information security standards – ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001 – required by international investors active in the Polish market. Data from Polish power plants never leaves for foreign operations centres, because we built that capability ourselves; our Monitoring Centre runs on Nomad NX, our own in-house SCADA software. “Local content” is a term everyone uses today – for us, it simply describes how we’ve operated since day one.
