In an era of rapid growth in renewable energy and increasingly volatile market dynamics Nomad Electric Services together with Hekla Energy, a leading renewable energy trading company, have introduced a transformative service — SafePrice NX. This innovative solution aims to shield energy producers from the risks associated with negative electricity prices while enabling agile, real-time management of energy generation.
The rising share of renewable energy in the energy mix, coupled with evolving market conditions, has brought unprecedented challenges, including negative energy prices and non-market redispatching by operators. These developments can significantly impact the profitability of generation assets. Projections indicate that such occurrences will only increase as the renewable energy sector continues to expand. Producers face diverse market environments, driven by their contractual frameworks—whether merchant models, virtual Power Purchase Agreements (vPPAs), or support schemes like renewable energy auctions or green certificate systems. Tailored energy management strategies are therefore critical.
SafePrice NX integrates the distinct expertise of Hekla Energy and Nomad Electric Services to address these challenges. Leveraging in-depth market analysis and contractual obligations, Hekla Energy creates optimized production schedules aligned with dynamic price fluctuations. These schedules are implemented by our system SCADA Nomad NX, which enables real-time, remote energy generation management. Adjustments are made continuously to align production with market realities, ensuring maximum profitability and operational efficiency.
Delivering Tangible Results
“According to our analyses, employing SafePrice NX at the start of 2024 could have increased a producer’s average weighted Day-Ahead Market price by PLN 25–30 per MWh,” said Gracjan Grela, CEO of Hekla Energy. “This includes a gain of PLN 16–21 per MWh by curtailing production during hours of negative prices, depending on the technology—solar or wind—and the extent of grid disconnection by the Distribution System Operator. An additional PLN 1 per MWh comes from redirecting capacity to international auctions, while around PLN 8 per MWh is achieved by resuming production during negative-price hours in cases of system undersupply. With the expected rise in negative-price hours, these benefits will only grow in the coming years. We offer a settlement rate of PLN 50 per MWh.”
Jarosław Żelewski, COO and Board Member of Nomad Electric Services added: “SafePrice NX is powered by our proprietary SCADA Nomad NX system, which gives investors complete control over their generation units in real-time. This ensures cost optimization and mitigates the risks associated with negative prices, safeguarding profitability.”
